What you need to know about detecting water leaks in Canberra and Queanbeyan.

When owners suspect that they have a water leak, they call us. Before we start looking for a water leak (leak locating)we need to determine whether there is actually a leak (leak detection) or not. We were once called to find leaking pipes for a an elderly lady in Canberra’s South. Our investigations lead us to a radio that was turned on but not tuned in.

We do a number of things to determine whether a leak exists and in what form that leak is. To start, we check the water meter to see if water is flowing through it. We do pressure tests and check your water bills and compare them to previous water bills from corresponding quarters. We check your plumbing, evaporative cooling, drainage and irrigation systems. We check to see if your last water meter reading was an actual reading or an estimate. It is only after we determine that you have water leak that we then move on to the next steps – calculating the size of the water leak and the Water Leak Locating process.

  4. If for some reason we are unable to help, when you call another plumber ask if they have their own water leak detecting and locating equipment. If they do not, find someone who does. This will save you a lot of time and money.
  5. Experience tells us that your insurance company will pay for the costs of leak locating if you have had a loss as a result of a leak beforehand.
